Why does Racked need your location?
Racked uses your location to verify you're near a climbing area when reporting conditions. This keeps condition data accurate and trustworthy for the entire community.
Please select "While Using the App" when prompted to contribute condition reports.
How We Predict Conditions
Racked uses weather data from government stations to estimate whether ice climbing routes are in climbable condition.
Our system tracks Freezing Degree Days — a measure of how much cumulative cold a route has been exposed to — along with precipitation, wind, and solar exposure to predict when ice forms and when it degrades.
Predictions are updated daily using data from weather stations nearest to each climbing area, adjusted for the route's elevation and the direction the wall faces.
Predictions are estimates, not guarantees. Always use your own judgment and check with local climbers when conditions are marginal. You can help improve predictions by submitting condition reports when you visit.
